88/365: Gerber Daisies

Image
Kandie loves Gerber daisies. We had this vase (actually a beer glass) on the counter and I thought they needed to be painted. I had the intention of doing something with more detail, but as I started working, this version sort of emerged. I am actually really happy with it. I like the minimal/impressionist version. I'm not sure you would look at this and say, "Wow - great Gerber daisies!" but I feel like they have a fluidity and sense of possibility that I like. I feel like they represent how I approach life. Fast impression, enjoying the taste, and moving on.  I guess I don't know if that's the right way to approach life. I do meditate on that quite a bit. But it seems that's who I am. I think I want to embrace that more in my art. Also, with a daily art project, there isn't time to labor over the piece. It has to be done fast. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep this one for myself or put it up on Etsy. I haven't been posting to Etsy. Instead

sunrise paddle

Image
I got up early this morning and went out for a sunrise paddle on the Lamprey. I'd never paddled the Lamprey at low tide, so it was a new experience. Where the Lamprey meets Great Bay there were mud flats going out quite a ways. That surprised me, but I guess it shouldn't have given how the Oyster River is. I was pleased to get a paddle in during March. My goal is to get a paddle in during every month of the year. I missed January this year, so I won't have 12 months straight until next year. But it's a goal! Not sure what I am doing with this new version of the blog yet. I think I really want to be motivational - for myself and hopefully for anyone else who wants to live a creative life. I'm doing my best to get there - to take full advantage of the gifts God has granted me.

Bailey's Irish Cream Brownies!

Image
It was Saturday, and Saturday is a day to celebrate food. And since this week was St. Patrick's Day, I made Bailey's Irish Cream Brownies! I went looking for a good recipe online and kept finding recipes like this one that provided instructions for making a cream with Bailey's, but then using store-bought brownie mix. I was not going to go half-way. So I found a nice fudgy recipe for the brownies themselves. Not hard to make. I was a little worried about the ganache, but as long as you take your time and use low heat, you won't burn the chocolate. Decadent!
